Plaid, Makin' My Own is Hard

A tale of two plaids. I am trying to make my own for the Paper Players Challenge. Actually it has really turned into a personal vendetta. I don't have a plaid stamp per-sea, so I am making my own plaid with a striped background stamp. I stamp it once with one color then turn it perpendicular and stamp it again with another color. It seems to be working pretty well, until I see the colors together. Then I get all confused as to what in the heck to put with the plaid. I am overthinking it again. Here are the first two cards I made with my "homemade" plaid. Side by side they are nearly identical, you can see how I was playing with color, the one on the left is a little more on the funky side.
